Exploring Texas Hill Country

We have had amazing weather here in the Hill Country and so have taken the chance to explore. Over the weekend we toured several of the local vineyards. We especially enjoyed the Bluegrass, BBQ and Blue Bonnets festival at the Becker Vineyards.

There were no free tastings, which was a downer, but we did snag a couple of free tours.

This week we drove down to Boerne (which is pronounced Bernie, not Bourne, as in Bourne Ultimatum like I would have thought…), and we hiked the Cibolo Nature Trail at the Cibolo Nature Center.

On the way back we took the scenic ranch road 1376. Rolling countryside galore! We stopped over at the Sister Creek Vineyards to take a tour of their wine making facilities, and then made our way to Luckenbach, the little town that was made famous by country signers Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. We drove the “Luckenbach town loop”, and except for the stop to take pictures, I think it took us about 2 minutes. There is even a sign a mile down the road past Luckenbach that says “Luckenbach was 1 mile back”, in case you missed it. Luckin’-back on it, we probably won’t go there again (oh hardy-di-har, I’m a real knee slapper, aren’t I?).
