Fail!

Ever checked out Fail Blog? No? You should. I notice awkwardly wrong stuff all the time and find them super funny. I'm going to start featuring my own Fails here for your viewing pleasure. Please excuse my random sense of humor!

Almost a New Year!

This has been a long week! I wish I could take all the events from the past few weeks and sprinkle them randomly into the next few months! My co-workers threw me an awesome going away party and a great going away present (gas money!!), we celebrated Christmas with our loved ones, have gone dancing and closed the bars down several weekends in a row, and have big plans for New Years Eve! We've been slowly making progress on our list...the VERY long list..and I am currently 15.7 miles away from hitting my goal of running 1,000 miles this year...I have tomorrow to run all those miles, wish me luck!

A Productive Day... Sort of

As has been previously mentioned by Maria, we put together a comprehensive list of 50+ items that need to be finished prior to the start of our voyage.  So this morning we rose early and started banging through some of the tougher items on the list.  Now this can be fun sometimes, when you have a large and monotonous task that you can fully immerse yourself and get lost in. Eight hours later and with three! items checked off the list, we were more emotionally exhausted than physically (we had been culling through 20+ years of accumulated knick-knacks, papers, and memories).

A Year of Personal Records in Running!

On a slightly different note, this year has been a great year of running for me! I keep a training log on www.runnersworld.com and if you are in the market for a training log, I would highly recommend this one. I had been lazy in documenting my daily miles the last month, and finally sat down to do so this morning. It turns out I am only 41 miles away from 1,000 miles for the year, and I've got 10 days to meet that goal! I've got a long run of 12 miles planned for this weekend with my running buddies and a Fun Run of 5 miles on Thursday at the local Fleet Feet store, but aside from that I'm on my own. I'll be bugging Skyler to run with me. :)

Marking Through the List...Slowly

So we're slowly making some headway on the 50 or so item list I mentioned in the last blog entry. I can almost see a glimmer of a light at the end of the tunnel! Yesterday we got Sky some new glasses before my cushy work vision insurance ran out at the end of December. Poor Skyler has been suffering the last 10 years with the somewhat dorky glasses he got back in high school, wearing contacts any chance he got. So finally, yesterday, we scheduled an eye appointment, and picked out some glasses! After trying on some awesome Harry Potter-esc ones, along with the grandpa glasses and the Mrs. Kitty glasses, we finally settled on a pair. I'm excited to see him with his new accessory soon!

Simplifying

The past few weeks we've been working through the immense list of items that need to be done before we can hit the road in January. This infamous list had about 50 items on it when first we put it together, all ranging from as easy as "put in change of address forms" to "list and sell all unneeded items on Craigslist". Speaking of which, Craigslist is awesome. I know..there are a few scary articles out there about people who've ran into trouble posting on Craigslist, but knock on wood, Sky and I have had only positive experiences so far. It's really nice when you spend 5 minutes taking pictures, creating the ad and posting it and one day later someone shows up at your door, cash in hand and takes this item that you've decided you didn't need anyways. I'd say most of the time people don't even haggle! I've really enjoyed going through everything we own and making mental piles of "to keep" and "to donate/sell".

Healthier Spaghetti

So Maria and I are both huge spaghetti fans... heck, anything with carbs is borderline addictive.  So on a whim the other day, we purchased a "spaghetti squash," not really knowing what it was, or what we were going to make with it.  After getting home, we went to the trusty Allrecipes website to figure out how and if we were going to make this squash. For those of you like us, who aren't familiar with spaghetti squash, it looks like a slightly longer and yellow version of an acorn squash, and once baked, it falls apart to spaghetti like strands. (And if you are familiar with this particular squash, you already know odd it is.)

New To Blogging

Wow, so this is my first blog post.  I've been a lurker on countless blogs over the years, but have not had a (the courage?) reason to blog in the past.  Well now I do.

My wife and I have decided to embark on a new journey; we are dubbing it as "A Life Experiment."  For this experiment, we've quit our jobs, purchased a sizable travel trailer and are in the process of selling 98% of our possessions.  (Craigslist has been awesome for helping with the latter!)
